Water Management
Water is one of Australia's most precious resources. Guests at our park use over 9.5 megalitres of water every year. That is over 86 litres of water per guest per year.
Our goal is to halve our water use overt the next five years. Read on to learn about how we are managing to do this, and what you can do to help us.
The park has embarked on an ambitious program of water management, in its pursuit of water conservation.

Since our plan was established in 2006, we have harvested over 138,000 litres of rainwater, and have reduced our water consumption in our shower blocks by replacing our old shower heads with water saving shower heads.
Our initiatives now include:- Rainwater collection tanks on cabins - once completed, the total annual water harvest from cabins will be almost 300,000 litres per year;
- Water saving shower heads in all showers both cabin and amenities. We have retrofitted over 70 shower heads to 9 litre per minute savers. We are now planning to roll out a number of shower heads at 7.5 litres per minute;
- Waterless urinals in 3 of 4 amenities blocks. This initiative has saved over 60,000 litres of water per year;
- Retro fitting a complete toilet flushing water tanks system into our cam ground amenities. This tank system we estimate will save over 150,000 litres of water per year;
- All park irrigation is now done with harvested rainwater.
New Initiative.
In association with Watershed West and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), we are proud to present our latest water saving project.
Over the past months we have worked together to install a functioning Nano-particulate Membrane Bio Reactor. We are now able to recycle and reuse all of the waste shower and hand basin water from our primary amenities block. See how the system works - downloadable PDF. (This is a large file)
Our plan for the future includes:
- Storm water harvesting for amenity toilet flushing. We estimate a total annual saving of 550,000 litres of water on toilet flushing;
- Storm water harvesting/treatment. We are planning a long term treatment system of our harvested water to be used in showers;
- Reduce your shower time. By having a 3 minute shower when you stay at the park, you will only use 27 litres of water. A 10 minute shower will use 90 litres of water. Over a year, one person reducing their shower time from 10 minutes to 3 minutes will have saved nearly 23,000 litres of water.
- If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down. Only use the 1/2 flush on toilets, and try to limit flushing wherever possible.
- Let the car go dirty - it helps save water, makes it look like you have been out in the bush, and, car washing is NOT permitted on park.
